Forging pathways for those affected by displacement, crisis, or limited mobility.
The Global Higher Education Alliance for the 21st Century (GHEA21) Hubs for Connected Learning Initiatives (Hubs) are co-led by Bard College and BRAC University’s Center for Peace and Justice. The Hubs deliver learner-centered, contextualized programming that is innovative in its use of technology to support participants in low-resource settings and builds local capacity to support implementation. The Hubs currently operate in Eastern Africa, the MENA region, and South Asia.
The Hubs Capacity Building works to develop programs such as Facilitator Training, a program that empowers Refugees into educational leaders; Researcher Training, a collaboration project with the Rift Valley Institute (RVI) that prepares Refugees with research skills; and Refugee-led Organizations (RLO's) Capacity Building, a training process in which the Hubs works with those running the RLO's in all of its facets of program implementation, Learn More
Higher education offerings in the form of a university preparatory program and interdisciplinary course clusters that result in transferable credits accumulation, official transcripts, and GHEA21 certificates of completion for students who have been unable to access a bachelor’s degree. Learn More
A refugee- and host community-led research hub to support local training in qualitative and quantitative approaches and to develop locally-situated research. Research supports the Hubs’ wider advocacy efforts by raising awareness of the barriers and challenges that refugees face.

Global Engagement Fellows Monthly Civic Engagement Workshops
Online Event This series of monthly workshops on every last Sunday of each month brings student leaders together from across GHEA21 to learn from each other’s experiences, reflect on each other's work, gain insight and training, and work together on gathering material helpful for new project leaders. By bringing the effective work of student leaders to light, this series provides them with the necessary assessments, knowledge, abilities, and skills needed to ensure sustainable projects.
We will hold innovative discussions related to project management, recruitment, leadership and sustainability, while strengthening the connection between universities in the network. We will work closely with current student leaders to help them grow their initiatives while assisting new student leaders to lead civic engagement projects. Applications are Open for Women, Peace and Security Program
Online Event Developed in collaboration with academics and professionals within and beyond GHEA21, the program is entirely student-led and designed to bring together individuals interested in rethinking the role of gender in conflict, peacebuilding, and global governance. As the 25th anniversary of UN Security Council Resolution 1325 approaches, the program encourages participants to critically examine why, despite decades of advocacy for women’s inclusion in peace processes, the global landscape of conflict continues to grow increasingly militarized and destructive — both to human life and to the environment.
Through a combination of case studies, policy analyses, and theoretical readings, participants engage deeply with feminist perspectives on security and diplomacy. The program will culminate in a Women, Peace, and Security Studies Conference, where participants will collaborate on drafting a policy resolution addressing the implementation gaps in Resolution 1325 and its subsequent amendments. All participants who complete the program will receive a Certificate of Completion from GHEA21. This is not an academic certificate.
Online Event Students across GHEA21 are invited to apply for Spring 2026 Online Courses. Online Courses (OCs) are taught by faculty from a single institution and delivered virtually to eligible students across the network. Students register online and receive course credit from the host institution. Courses are offered by multiple member institutions.
